Celebrated in many Hispanic cultures, a quinceanera is a rite of passage to celebrate a girl's 15th birthday. These elaborate celebrations can cost as much as a wedding reception and have many of the same elements.
Typical costs:
A quinceanera typically costs $5,000-$20,000 total, with the cost varying according to the number of guests, the venue, and the type of food offered. For example, a breakdown of average costs for each item, including invitations, venue, and food, is available at Mis Quince[1] , a magazine for young girls.
A quinceanera venue typically costs $350-$10,000 (stage and reception seating included), similar to the costs for a wedding reception venue. For example, renting a half annex of the Victoria Community Center in Victoria, TX, costs $468 (seats 200). Quinceaneras at the Gaylord Palms in Kissimmee, FL, begin at $2,500, and the facility features a glass atrium.
Food and drinks for a quinceanera typically cost $10-$30 per person, or $500-$6,000 total for a party of 50-200 guests. The prices are similar to the low-end catering costs for a wedding reception. A tiered party cake typically costs $1-$4 per slice.
Flowers and decorations for a quinceanera typically cost $150 for a small, budget reception to $15,000 for an elaborate ballroom setup. Besides the girl's bouquet and flower arrangements for the reception, balloons, and a decorative stage or princess chair are other possible costs. A quinceanera dress typically costs $250-$1,000. Pretty Quinceanera[2] offers gowns in the $200-$300 price range. At the higher end, the Allure Quinceanera Ruched Dress costs $790 and comes in four colors. Accessories such as a crown[3] , jewelry[4] , and shoes[5] can add another $40-$200.
The reception music or DJ typically costs an extra $150 to $1,000. Like a wedding DJ, quinceanera music typically costs $100-$300 per hour.
A venue should include seating for all guests and a stage area for the honored girl's entrance, if requested. Table linens and decorations may or may not be included in the venue fee.
Catering costs for a quinceanera should include all food, drinks, and service fees for a specified number of guests.
Additional costs:
Quinceanera invitations typically costs $100-$300, or $1 to $3 each. For example, Invitation Consultants[6] carries invitations starting at around $1.40 each.
The honored girl's hair and makeup may cost $70-$150 at a professional salon.
Ceremony fees, which may include an honorarium for the priest or a general fee for building usage, can be $60-$500.
Professional event photography typically costs $50-$300 per hour of the event, with total prices of $300 to $1,800 for a six-hour event.
Similar to wedding favors, quinceanera favors such as candy may cost $1-$2 each, adding an extra $100-$400 to the total cost.
The hosts of the party may choose to pay for the attendants' dresses and suits. There are typically seven female and seven male attendants in a quinceanera, and these costs can easily reach $1,500.
Discounts:
Padrinos, also called godparents and close friends of the honored girl's family, sometimes split the costs of the event. Additional padrinos or "sponsors" of the event may be contacted in advance to help finance the event.
Quinceaneras may be held at home to save money, such as Ashley's party[7] in Lakewood, OH. Other low-cost venues might include a church, park or community center.
Donate My Dress[8] is an organization that collects used quinceanera and special-occasion dresses and gives them to individuals who cannot afford to buy a new dress. They list pick-up and drop-off locations by state.
Shopping for a quinceanera:
Mis Quince shares budgeting tips[9] including a breakdown of how to plan a quinceanera for $2,500 or less. The online magazine also shares photos of real-life quinceaneras[10] and tips for planning the quinceanera Mass[11] , which is celebrated before the reception or party.
Super Quince offers a glossary of common terms[12] , such as damas, the honored girl's female attendants, and chambelans, their male escorts who are part of the ceremony.
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops answers 15 questions about the quinceanera Mass, including how to choose the attendants and why the celebration is recognized.

Quinceanera still in the planning as it’s only a couple of weeks away. The estimated total expenses after the event is $20,000-$22,000 as the venue itself will be $3,000 and live music at $8,500 not including all other expenses. Very blessed with all the Padrino’s and “sponsors” of the event
It was absolutely beautiful! (location was free so that was a great blessing) She looked stunning, the service was lovely, photos were done by a friend. Food by family. We made use of what was available.
My daughter's Quinceañera was turned out beautiful! I'm living in California but we go to Mexico and very happy how things went. The planner was an angel for mi family coming allover and different places. But they pay for a discount room bookings. I no cover the rooms for family and friends. Only payments for food, mi'ja y su corte de honor, de planner buy mi clothes y mi esposo, mi'ja y su corte de honor.
Didn't spend any money on food as we had friends and family cook and bring dishes from home. Had a beautiful venue and decorations were exactly how I wanted
My daughters party is in June 2015. Price as of 2/2015. Still need to purchase drinks and my families clothing for that day. Does not include how much her aunt paid for marachi.
We had a beautiful ceremony and had a chance to enjoy and have fun all the time. I really liked the way I did it and I could do it for anybody who needs help with planning a party on a budget of about $10,000.
